You Can't Put it Down! Alicia: My Story, is the most compelling holocaust book I've ever read. The non-stop, shocking twists and turns (enough for three books) astoundingly all happened to one person. Alicia Appleman is like a cat with nine lives; driven to survive each horrendous event and near death experience with quick thinking, compassion for others, and wisdom far beyond her years. Horrific do. Fascinating, sad, educational Very interesting first hand accout of life as a Jewish adolescent who lost her family to the Holocaust and how she endured through unthinkable conditions. I read it with my son who is in 8th grade so i could review with him. I am sure reading about what happened to Alicia helped us both to appreciate all we have in life.. "History must not repeat itself" according to MargaretSc. Excellent read. Lots of tears, moments of grat strength and heroism. The atrocities of WW II upon the elder children of God our Father in heaven must never be forgotten. History must not repeat itself. These histories should be mandatory reading for all school children.
After losing her entire family to the Nazis at age 13, Alicia Appleman-Jurman went on to save the lives of thousands of Jews, offering them her own courage and hope in a time of upheaval and tragedy. Not since The Diary of Anne Frank has a young voice so vividly expressed the capacity for humanity and heroism in the face of Nazi brutality.
