DESCRIPTION:
(Guitar). Certainly no name resonates across the spruce and maple boundaries of the classic American guitar like that of John D'Angelico, master guitar builder. Here in personal and cooperative histories, anecdotes, and first-hand accounts, Frank Green has infused the name of the master with life and vitality. Includes a 24-page color section and hundreds of rare photographs.
An Odd Collection This book on John D'Angelico and his guitars is a peculiar compendium. It does offer a good number of interesting old photographs and some information on the maker. A large portion of the book, however, is taken up with all the details of the D'Angelico reproductions made in the last 15 years or so. The author is/was the moving force in having these guitars made, and perhaps finds this part of the story more interesting than would the average reader. While these may be fine guitars, they were not made by D'Angelico, and I doubt that most readers really need to know exactly who bought each one of them and why. The book gives the impression . Very disappointing. This book has very little real info about John D'Angelico and a scant bit of info about his guitars. There are some nice pictures of D'Angelicos and a few stories about people that bought guitars from D'Angelico. A lot of space is spent on the D'Angelico II of the early '90s and the luthiers involved. There is also some info on the Vestax D'Angelico replicas. It's interesting info but IMO the title and descrition of the book is somewhat misleading. If you have to have every word in print on the subject of D'Angelico you might consider this book but for most people it will probably prove to be a less than satisfying purchase.. "D'Angelico" according to Archtop Guy. This is a review of D'Angelico,Master Guitar Builder,What's in a Name? By Frank W/M Green. Being an archtop guitar lover this book is right up my alley. The book goes through the history of Mr. D'Angelico and his progression of model development through out his decades long reign as the king of archtop guitar building. It includes interviews from buyers of the guitars through out the years and how the guitars changed along with the musical needs of the day. Also included is a wonderful color photo section. Mr. Green dedicates the first section of the book to it's buyers, then moves into a small chapter on D'Angelico strings, then moves into
