I seldom review books, and in my responsible life, I NEVER stay up all night reading a book from start to finish. This one, I did. As soon as I woke up (this afternoon), I hit "1-click buy" for the next 2 in the series, Contact and Colonization. 'Nuff said.. A strong first book in a new series Invasion is a fast paced story about a survivalist trying to make use of all his preparations to keep his family safe from the unexpected.I enjoyed the story, reading it quickly, in only a couple of nights. Platt and Truant once again give us a cast of interesting, believable characters, and a plot full of action. But nothing will stand between Meyer's family and their haven and Meyer will kill his way to Colorado if he has to. So the news has turned from evasion to triage, urging calm and offering the few facts they have: The objects are enormous, perfectly round spheres numbering in the dozens, maybe hundreds. The fate of humanity, in Meyer's eyes, doesn't matter. Meyer has been taking steps for months, and has made preparations: a trove of supplies, a van stocked for the worst, a Gulfstream waiting at a small airstrip in Jersey. Rioting spills into the highways as time ticks away. The space fleet in itself doesn't matter. He has prepared though he never knew until now what he'd been preparing for. They are on an approach vector for Earth. But he hasn't yet been able to take the final and most important step: moving the family to Colorado, where every contingency is covered. Meyer Dempsey - mogul, wealthy entrepreneur, arrogant and always in charge - is in New York, on the ph
