Love Letters is a short novel set in the time A most compelling short story. Love Letters is a short novel set in the time of Edward the Confessor prior to the Norman Conquest. Emily Murdoch paints the delightful picture of life in a family of the Saxon nobility trying to enhance their standing with the King. The author has an extensive knowledge of her subject which makes the novel all the more enjoyable by providing an insight to England at that time. It therefore informs but is always very readable and enjoyable. I have also read Conquests and this second one is equally impressive. It is of course a love story and a romance based on a series of myst. A sweet tale of young love Amazon Customer It is a sweet tale of two young people who grew up together but when they got older were separated because of their individual stations in life. Selwyn goes away to get trained as a steward to Catheryn's father while Catheryn grows up to be a beautiful, intelligent woman. They are awkward with each but soon they start getting re-acquainted and love blossoms between them. The reader is left to wonder whether things will work out between them because Of Selwyn's prank and the disapproval of the other thanes but in the end everything comes together. The author has beautifully captured the family life of a noble. Another lovely story from Emily Murdoch I loved this novella as much as the other two in the collection: Conquest and Captive. This is the middle story of the trilogy and follows noble high-born Catheryn and her romance with a servant in her father's court. As usual with Emily Murdoch, there is suspense, danger and misunderstandings. It kept me reading with its twists and turns. Highly recommended trilogy.
