Johnsgard(Smithsonian Institute Press 2002) This excellent and very thorough book is likely to appeal most to people seeking a science-oriented presentation. It is certainly useful for "non-scientific" folks like myself but, for me at least, reading it is somewhat akin to walking barefoot in deep, loose sand.
