Pilgrimage through Loss tells the story of one family’s journey, along with interviews from thirty other mothers and fathers who add their voices to the silences that often surround suffering in our ‘mourning-avoidant’ culture. Each chapter includes questions for reflection and discussion, plus recent research on grief and loss. The death of a child immerses parents into a life-long challenge of living with one of life’s most heartbreaking losses. Rather than prescribing a path that will lead to recovery, Hunt encourages parents to find the pathways that work for them as they seek to engage life again with meaning and hope. Hunt illuminates the varied pathways parents eventually discover that open their lives to strength and healing. Pilgrimage through Loss not only helps grieving parents, it also provides an insightful resource for those wanting to understand and come alongside a family in grief.

As Linda Hunt grieves the loss of her loving daughter Krista, and shares the stories of other parents, she articulates most profoundly and beautifully that grief is as individual and unique an experience as is the life being grieved. She told stories about others' pilgrimage through grief, and hers. Helpful clinical facts were seasoned with flights of poetry. (Poetry!) Heavy moments were lifted by hails of snorting group laughter. I sat in the back of the room (nea. "Thoughtful discussion of loss of a family member" according to SC REader. I was fortunate enough to hear Linda Hunt speak and was captured by her story and her strength. While the book is written as a response to the loss of her daughter, the insights are valid for any loss. This is not a “how to” book for overcoming grief, but a powerful look at the many different ways we grieve and how to accept all of them. The pilgrimage does not seek to diminish loss, but to find a path to finding appreciation of current moments. Not based completely on her own experience Linda has interviewed thirty families and told of their journeys in addition to her own. A valuable resource for care. Perfect book to guide you through your grief with hope for the future. colossal I was reading many books, when I started this one after a reading by several of the contributors to Linda Hunt's book at Aunties, but I could not put this one down. I have never lost a child but I have a grandson with Cystic Fibrosis, so I understand some of the emotions that go with knowing one must keep a face of hope and courage always, and learn to savor the precious moments of the now. Linda wove the stories of the parents who had lost children tenderly there each of the chapters. Each chapter had it's purpose of renewal and hope. It was very positive in it's emotion and gave me great love for those going thro
