Get the book! The book does a great job explaining the functions of sql server. Great examples are provided with lots of common sense explanations.. "SQL 2012 Functions Joe's 2 Pros" according to Mark W. Jones. Very well written in a logical manner. Good scenarios that make sense to Joes without boring the Pros. I like that there wasn't a lot of time spent on impressing me with their knowledge, which is substantial, but it's focus was on teaching me.
