Within its claustrophobic confines, suspicion and misunderstanding are rife.So when Radegonde is sent on a mission to Martinique, it’s vital that these proud men learn to work together, especially as it seems everyone from Churchill to de Gaulle—not to mention Hitler—has a stake in the outcome. Will Harry be able to navigate these dangerous waters safely and return with hard-won wisdom, or will old enemies arise to sink him?. When he grew up, he discovered the truth was even more epic, and so followed the inspiration for his fictional submariner Harry Gilmour and a series of novels about his adventures across World War Two. The Horatio Hornblower of World War II Fireman721 As a reader of the complete Horatio Hornblower series by C S Forester I couldn't help but notice some parallels. Young, somewhat shy, young man with a poor family life in a lower class of British Society gets into the royal navy and after some misadventures with the supercilious officers from the 'right families' is shunted off to submarine duty. Our Horatio, Harry Gilmour, through a little luck and a lot of perseverance, intestinal fortitude, and adherence to personal behavior principles is able to succeed. In this book our plucky lad is assigned to a French submarin. Good but predictable Kindle Customer A good naval adventure. The plot is interesting but predictable. The major character is quite a potential leader but no Hornrblower.I have read the other books in the series. They are solid reading but do come close in the major books in naval fiction.
