"Not what I expected" according to saphykat. I purchased this book at the recommendation of a friend. He gave me a general outline and I decided to give it a go.It starts out a bit slow, meeting the characters usually does take time, but it is necessary.Once you are comfortable with the relationships the book takes off, literally a road trip. I will admit I could not put it down.Though it covers a lot about the art of crop dusting ,the planes and techniques, it is not boring to read. In fact it is exciting. The love story is delightful. OK, it's pretty exciting too -loads of intrigue.Thank you Mr HughesI truly enjoyed this book and am waiting for the sequel.. Tim O'Reilly really took off Customer I loved this book! The plot was well constructed and drew me in - fulfilling my two signs of a great plot: an increasing interest in the developments and a difficulty in putting a book aside the further one ventures into it. The technical references to flying were not distracting, but remindscent of Lee Child's technical descriptions of guns and bullets - succinct and crisp. The characters were well developed and variably lovable or aggravating. The emotions were perfectly stated for the 60's, especially in the Christian communities being depicted but seemed quaint in comparison to most of what is written today.Great read. Highly recomme. Simply great Federico Bossi Fun, entertaining, well written, humorous, with the right dose of trill, and a lot flying.A masterpiece at first try, with the tones of Grisham's A Painted House, the flying of Ernest K Gann, and a lot of personal style.Start reading it, and finish it in 24 hours like I did.And by the way: it is partly autobiographical, as the author really was a crop dusting pilot and flew and worked all over this places.

Tim O'Reilly desperately needed to get away. He thought a couple years on the road as a seasonal crop duster would be an adventure to give him some space and help him get his head back together. As it turned out, he certainly did have an adventure, but it wasn't quite as he'd imagined. It became an adventure of the classical type, one that involved not only a lovely damsel in distress but also a "knight" of the darker kind.
