In the first part of the book, there is a story that is told from a child's perspective. In the second part of the book, there are memory pages that explain the rich symbols of Baptism in a way that children will understand. We are using it in Catholic religious education classes for children in grades 1-5.. "A unique find" according to H. Bradford. I liked this book because it was not specific to any religion and it had space inside for recording information about the event (who was there, special memories, etc). It was given to me as a gift and I have given it to others for their baptisms.
The quality of the book along with the ability to personalize it, make this both a perfect gift and perfect keepsake of a baby s baptismal day.. There is space for Mom and Dad, godparents, and others to write messages to the baby and describe the day. The illustrated story is enough to make this a treasured book. This charming book begins with a heartwarming story of a baby baptism day. There is also an area for photographs and other mementos. They serve to remind us of the history, meaning, and the absolute importance of the Sacrament of Baptism. The story is written from the perspective of the baby and brings out all the newness and specialness of this day. The Short Essays on Baptism that follow the story section are particularly enlightening for older children and adults. But there is more. Another feature that makes Today I Was Baptized special is the ability to personalize the book, making it a cherished memento of the baptism day. The illustrations are by Bill Shurtliff who masterfully uses the family, home, and church settings, accentuated by angels, babies, and a few pets, to create an illustrated guide to the Sacrament of Baptism
