DESCRIPTION:
There exists a distinction between Bonafide Rojas' New York & its popularized identity. Rojas is a quintessential New Yorker & it has given him the chance to observe a living organism build & transform itself. "When The City Sleeps" is his offering to a city & its constant inspiration.. Rojas' love & laments are steeped in stark realism, the loneliness of being, & an observation of the dismantled facade of the city. Continuing in the tradition of Whitman, Crane, Lorca, & Pietri, he writes to document the city's wonders, brilliance & shocking tales. The love affair he has with New York is another story to push into the concrete. Every city block has an enchantment to it & he is drawn to its story. The beauty of documenting is that it is a weapon against misconception. Rojas have absorbed the suffering of every brick & never lost belief of its beauty, even through the trials of the everyday

crownkane07 said Genius.. This fool is a genius. Bonafide Rojas' _When the City Sleeps_ is the definitive New York poetry collection of our generation. There have been tourist poems of New York, stories of hidden New York, block reportage on New York, and moments of true brilliance inspired by New York. This book is different. It is all the madness of youth strained through 8 million souls. It has its ancestors, distant (think _Leaves of Grass_) and recent (think _No Noose is Good News_ and _Where a Nickel Costs a Dime_), but its real blood brother might be S. Korean poet Ko Un's _Ten Thousand. SimplyArlene said Beautiful & gritty. When The City Sleeps is a wonderful compilation of love letters to the city of New York. Page after page Mr. Rojas delivers titillating poems that paint an accurate picture of this complex city and his love for it. The poems like the city are beautiful, gritty, and diverse.A few favorites are: Grand Concourse Solitude, Holler, In Front of the Class and Compilation of a Heartbreak.. Jessica Ortiz said Four Stars. A great poet. I have a couple of Bonafide's books. I highly recommend this book.
