Enjoyed reading it twice. It really got deep into the history of what the indians had to go through. If I had not read this book, I would not have understood all the extreme hardships they were put through all for the sake of land and money. It shows that human love is much more important in life, in my opinion. It leaves the door open for the sequel that the author is working on now. I bought close to 15 books for Christmas presents and everyone wants to know what happened to Sarah Ha Ha I guess we will have to see, I can't wait ;D. apd said Garden of Eve by Wheeler Pounds. The author of this book is our neighbor and longtime friend. He brought us a copy of the book and neither my husband or I could put it down until it was finished. It is a wonderful book. Rich with history of the Cherokees and the hardships they endured, but also a mystery and romance all wrapped up in one. We got to the end and found ourselves going back to reread several parts of the book to make sure we did not miss any important details that pulled it all together. We are anxiously waiting for the next book.
The main sub-plot tells the story of Eve, who was taught to read and write by a Methodist preacher whose territory was northwest Alabama and who was sympathetic to the plight of the native Americans. This first novel by Wheeler Pounds has it all: great plot, mystery, adventure, suspense, romance, and historical fact. Not only is this a fascinating work of fiction, it is historically accurate and teaches so much about the Cherokee history and culture.
