DESCRIPTION:
Every subsequent chapter offers a proofing strategy for the concept being taught. Using her unique M-A-P approach (Model-Analysis-Practice), Susan Fawcett's books have guided hundreds of thousands of students through the writing process, from foundations of grammar, mechanics, and spelling, through writing clear sentences and well-organized paragraphs. Full-color illustrations, including 45 photos, cartoons, and artworks, plus a new design, help students visualize and understand key concepts.. This edition of GRASSROOTS features improved grammar coverage and emphasizes proofreading, with a new Chapter 6 that teaches specific proofreading strategies and shows students how to recognize their personal "error patterns," track, and correct them. Her inductive approach; plentiful, high-interest student models and practices; and contemporary readings engage and motivate students
Five Stars Amazon Customer Great.. Five Stars Ed great book. Thorough, excellent new proofreading material helps students find their own mistakes. I've used Grassroots in the past and was very pleased to see the new 10th Edition. It has integrated a new early chapter on the importance of proofreading with proofreading tips; best, every grammar chapter contains a proofreading strategy targeted to the error or errors addressed in that chapter. Students are helped to pay close attention, find their own errors and correct them. As always, Grassroots is visually inviting, even beautiful, with contemporary passages that students actually like to read. I
Grassroots does a good job with this level of student which is why we have stayed with this text for about 15 years.""This book is a staple among developmental writing texts." . "Students at this level have many challenges including narrowing and focusing a topic, adequate development, sentence structure and grammar

Susan Fawcett started teaching English at Bronx Community College right after she finished college. She occasionally teaches a class in Miami, where she lives in the winter and writes full time
