DoberDi said Unexpected treasure. When I first got this book in the mail, I thought it was a big ripoff. It seemed incredibly expensive for almost no content and very poor pictures. However, my granddaughter loved it. It seems that the simplicity is appealing to children, and after one reading, she would pretend to read it to me. "Kids don't float" became our weekend chant, as well as naming all the things that do and don't float. Having had a near swimming pool accident with her, this new swimming game really helped reinfo. "This book was just what I was looking for!" according to Nancy E. There are not that many children's books about water safety out there but this one was perfect for my lesson plans. I used this book along with my float & sink table activity. The children took turns dropping each object in the water (used a little wooden spoon for the surfboard!). My preschoolers enjoyed this activity. Also every time I read "kids don't float" I would add, "wearing your life jacket helps you float doesn't?" Small children need to know how a life jacket can save their life!. water safety for preschoolers and younger Candle lady This is a cute little book that is easy for preschoolers to understand. It has unique illustrations with brief statements. For children just learning to read it is very understandable and for younger ones parents will easily be able to teach them about water safety with this fun little book.
