"this lovely and unique book is highly recommended."—Library Journal (NY)
Jose Antonio Ares teaches metalworking arts and crafts at the University of Barcelona in Spain.
"Artistry makes up for the lack of detail" according to StevedorStan. I agree with the review that states the book is light on technical information. But for what this genre represents (lots of color photos, summaries of technique, and then a bunch of "step by step" - where the steps are pretty darn general - projects) this book is pretty swell. The projects are far more interesting than the very similar "Artisan Welding Projects" (from the same publisher, I believe). The main advantage, is that the author is an artist; he covers some beautiful and downright inspiring projects. Some of his tips on project visualization and layout were useful, too. But it is defi. Five Stars Incredible book!!!. "Title misleading" according to Donald R. Haddix. The Title is(Metal Forming, Forging, and Soldering Techniques)There is entirely too much of the book on tools and how to use them. I already know how to use the tools but I do need more info. on forming metal. I can get a free Sears tool catalog and have tools. I do not feel that it was worth the $12.95+ shipping. I was looking for the "techniques" on how to do the bending, forming, etc. It did not meet my need or expectations.

A variety of beautiful and useful objects are shown as they are being made in a series of step-by-step photos. Metal is an unusually satisfying medium for many artists, but working in metal requires a considerable amount of specialized knowledge and practical skill. It makes a fine textbook for apprentice metalworking artists, presenting a basic overview of the science of metallurgy, then discu
