Even when I do read such stories, I often find myself laughing at the characters and the ridiculousness that passes for "romance."But in Kay's novel, I was laughing for an entirely different reason: It's hilarious. The sense of humor is so sharp and biting and smart that I loved every jab and one liner. Really, the wit of this book will carry anyone through the story. Loved it. (This, of cou. As in her poems (and if you haven’t read her poetry, rectify that pronto), Liz Kay does not flinch before life’s dark messiness — in fact, she wades in hip deep. Stacey is a poet and newly widowed mother-of-two living in Omaha who gets her book optioned by one of Hollywood’s biggest stars/bad boy who is also playing the lead – add instant sexual attraction, heavy doses of grief, quick-witted banter, and vats of alcohol and you’ve buckled in for a fast-paced, whiplashed ride. Tommy’s passion for Stacey’s novel-in-verse (a feminist reimagining of Frankenstein, no less) will set their lives on a collision course as they go about making the book into a movie, making each other crazy, and making love—but only in secret. **Selected as a Summer Beach Read Pick by Harper’s Bazaar, the Associated Press, Purewow, and Refinery29** A cracklingly funny and poignant debut novel about a perfectly imperfect love story.   This is the story of Stacey Lane, recently widowed poet and certified mess, and unbelievably sexy Hollywood star Tommy DeMarco

Or the act of making art or love. Because the truth is, it's love that is a monster story, no? A tale of unknown creatures and dark circumstances. A smart look at grief and how we bounce back from it, Monsters is fast-paced and completely addictive.” --Purewow, Ultimate Summer 2016 Book Pick“Stacey, the narrator of Monsters: A Love Story, is a feminist poet in Hollywood—you got to love her for that alone. A highlight of the novel is its explorations of rich and complex characters with multi-faceted backstories. But ultimately, this is a love story, how the meeting of kindred spirits is often as punishing as it is beguiling. But you also love
