DESCRIPTION:
Well arranged book that gets quickly to the heart of the matter. Extremely informative and easy to understand although it is a big advantage if you happen to be a skilled sight reader. Nevertheless there is a tablature format for those who aren't. Your technique and knowledge of chordal harmony will most definitely improve after you peruse the pages. The analysis of Robben Fords stunning version of "Aint Got Nothin' But The Blues" in the last section of this book is second to none. It's very accurate and the chordal variations are beautiful to. Good advanced book Maurice Micklewhite This book is available both with CD and DVD and is titled Robben Ford II - The Blues and Beyond. I have the CD.The main point I would make about this book is that it is fairly advanced and takes a jazz approach to the blues. There are some great straight ahead blues riffs of course, but a lot of this book is based on playing the changes, often with some non-diatonic scales (altered, diminished, harmonic minor, melodic minor). For more basic blues I would direct you to his Blues an. Robben's methods are inspiring J. Fernandes This is a worthwhile approach to some excellent blues. However, I thought I was purchasing a DVD instead of just a CD. My fault. Since I owned a video copy and no longer have VHS player I wanted to replace the tape with a DVD and did not look at it close enough.
The accompanying booklet has examples in music and tab. He also discusses phrasing and playing ""outside"" using pentatonic, diminished and melodic minor scales. (60 min.) In The Blues and Beyond, Robben reveals his advanced concepts for improvising and comping. Two great Robben Ford videos packaged as a set. In Playin' the Blues, Robben teaches favorite blues scales and phrases. He demonstrates how he plays over chord changes including altered and chord substitutions. He also reveals his unique fingerings for string bending and vibrato. Included are chord voicings, rhythm guitar ideas, and some great 12-bar solos featuring many of Robben's classic blues guitar phrases. (75 min.)
