I had this book some years ago and gave it to a supervisee and it was not returned - so bought this and "Unlocking the Unconscious" the collected papers of Davanloo. Both very necessary for the serious psychotherapist, particularly if they are dealing with fragile clients. Short, serious psychotherapy that helps the client through the stages of free association, transference and into solution building with more effective, lasting outcomes. Do a course related to the subject and use these as the references and for ongoing referral. Invaluable.. Jonathan Weingarden said Quick read that is applicable with most patients.. Takes charisma on the therapists part, but an excellent approach to take with patients with moderate to moderately severe interpersonal struggles. I can't remember if its in this book, or Sifneos or Malan, but the idea of the interpersonal triangle is vital: the maladaptive interpersonal pattern occurs in the therapeutic relationship, ongoing relationships, and was learned early in life.
Argues that with suitable selection criteria and specified therapeutic techniques, short-term dynamic psychotherapy is both feasible and valuable. In commenting on each others selection criteria, they reveal differences amongst themselves.. Contributors address the question of suitablity
