The chemicals are presented alphabetically and classified as a carcinogen, hazardous substance, hazardous waste, or toxic pollutant. For more than a quarter century, Sittig's Handbook of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals and Carcinogens has proven to be among the most reliable, easy-to-use and essential reference works on hazardous materials. Sittig's 5th Edition remains the lone comprehensive work providing a vast array of critical information on the 2,100 most heavily used, transported, and regulated chemical substances of both occupational and environmental concern.Information is the most vital resource anyone can have when dealing with potential hazardous substance accidents or acts of terror. I would have expected better from the highly experienced publisher Elsevier. Imagine copying and pa. "For ALL who come in contact with hazardous chemicals anywhere - even around your house." according to majormusiclover. At first glance you may think this book is for professionels only. But further inspection will reveal how useful it would be around your home as well. This reference work is for all who may have contact with the 2000 most common hazardous chemicals. This is of course, essential information for first responders and frontline industrial safety personnel. And numerous other prefessions can benefit as well, such as,lawyers, occupational doctors & nurses, law enforcement officals, to name a few. This set would ev
Workers, companies, the public, emergency response organizations, and all levels of government pay the figurative and literal price. The CSB described our nation's lack of definitive knowledge of the "big picture" surrounding chemical incidents as "the industrial equivalent of two 737 airplanes 'crashing' year after year, killing all passengers (256 people) without anyone seeming to notice. They are indiscriminate in their effects. Excerpt from the Preface of Sittig's Handbook of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals and Carcinogens, Sixth Edition "Commercial chemical incidents occur tens of thousands of times each year, often with devastating and exorbitantly expensive consequences. Perhaps it is due to their pervasiveness, or to the common tendency to overl
