Howard Finster Stranger In Paradise 2010 It's been a long time since the last 2 major monographs on Howard Finster were published back in 1989 so this new book "Stranger In Paradise/The Works of Reverend Howard Finster" is a welcome addition to the Finster catalog.Before getting to the inside of the book a word about the cover: it comes with a warning sticker/disclaimer which is rather odd that reads "Due to the unique binding on this publication, this book was not designed to lay complete flat. Please do not force the binding." Strange, right? When you get the book you'll see it's actually a paperback that has gray boards on the front and back covers, but the spine is of t. J. Boyd said Artist As Alien. The Reverend Howard Finster had the artist's need to express his soul. He proved that you don't need to be trained in the traditions of the visual artist to make art that speaks to both that need to create and the need to communicate, to link with, your fellow beings. The highest spiritual aspirations he possessed were the Christian ones he was raised with. But he saw and reported on levels of reality you and I can only imagine. I truly believe he was connected with Cosmic realities that transcend Christianity. I love his art for stimulating my imagination and taking me where he went.
