Ok I recently received my book in the mail. The weirdest thing, when I was deciding on which thai yoga book to buy, I read various reviews on various books. Since returning to the site, I don't see a single review on this book?? Maybe it's listed twice? Either way, I think the book is fairly good. If your more of a "visual" person much like myself I would recommend buying something different. Immediately, I was disappointed by the illustration (photos) in this book !!! They pretty much appear as if someone xeroxed them to the point much of the photo quality has been lost. Also, their in black and white. I would. A tremendous contribution to Thai Massage Fran Ray This is a must have for every practitioner of Thai Massage. Ananda is a gifted master of Thai Massage and has done a great service sharing her vast knowledge of this healing art. The photographs showing the wide variety of moves unique to this modality are easy to understand. The accompanying text is well written with precise descriptions of the techniques, the anatomy and how it is affected, and valuable information about the Sen lines I have not found elsewhere. It is meticulous. I love this book and often use it for reference. Along with Asokananda's books, this is the best Thai Massage book available.. Firstly, it explains in detail the origins of Thai Massage and its connection with Buddhism. Then, fully illustrated with clear photographs, it gives step by step, detailed instructions for sitting, supine and side line positions. Ananda has taken great care to elaborate
Throughout the book, Ananda always reminds us of the deeper meaning of this sacred modality—compassion in action. The book explains the historical and philosophical background of Thai massage as well as its religious origins. This is no surprise given its unique multifaceted approach to the body. Thai massage combines acupressure, stretching, reflexology, assisted yoga postures, herbal compresses, prayer and meditation. Sometimes called the "lazy person's yoga", Thai massage stretches and relaxes the muscles, increases the joints' range of motion, and balances energy flow throughout the body.
