DESCRIPTION:
If you work with data and need easy access to clear, reliable definitions and explanations of modern statistical and statistics-related concepts, then look no further than this dictionary. Nearly 4000 terms are defined, covering medical, survey, theoretical, and applied statistics, including computational and graphical aspects. Entries are provided for standard and specialized statistical software. Definitions provide enough mathematical detail to clarify concepts and give standard formula when these are helpful. In addition, short biographies of over 100 important statisticians are given. The majority of definitions then give a reference to a book or article where the user can seek further or more specialized information, and many are accompanied by graphical material to aid understanding.
Nathan Oakes said Still Needs Work. The focus of this dictionary is mathematical statistics, not applied statistics, and is intended for graduates and professionals. The definitions are not simple and include lots of equations. There is no other dictionary like it and it has the potential for being developed into a very useful handbook. I think it needs a lot of work, though. First, the coverage is lacking. I could not find many terms that should be in a dictionary targeted at professionals (cf. Dodge). Second, many of the definitions could stand revising for clarity (cf. Upton & Cook). Third, while there are many figu. Karel Kupka said A Must Have for every teacher and researcher. Exhaustive descriptions and definitions on few lines of text with good referrences. I can hardly think of basic or advanced statistical terms not included here. Thanks.. Daniel Siu said Good.. This is a good stat dictionary which covers most stat terms with a brief explanation.
