DESCRIPTION:
The late J.O. Urmson was Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, and Henry Waldgrave Stuart Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, at Stanford University.
R. Moore said Highly Useful for Students of Early Greek Philosophy, Plato and Aristotle. See my review of F.E. Peters' "Greek Philosophical Terms." This book is less exhaustive in its treatment of technical terms, but its definitions, quotations, and citations are informative and augment Peters' volume very nicely. Highly recommended for any student of presocratic, Platonic, and Aristotelian philosophical texts.. Three Stars Ok but not so strong for Aristotle.
J.O. The book includes a wealth of quotations ranging from the fifth century BC to the sixth century AD.. Urmson's The Greek Philosophical Vocabulary contains some five hundred alphabetically arranged entries, each aiming to provide useful information on a particular word used by Greek philosophers
