DESCRIPTION:

Isabel is an engaging narrator who has plenty of racy and tragic stories to tell. This "he said/she said" format allows Rosario Ferré to explore sexual divisions in Puerto Rican society and evaluate the blurred boundaries between fact and fiction. "Another half an hour of being white, and Carmelina would have died." Isabel remarks. When Quentin discovers the work in progress, he is dismayed at her factual errors and unhappy that she reveals so many family secrets. In The House on the Lagoon, a wealthy Puerto Rican woman decides to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a novelist, much to her husband Quintin's chagrin. At first, he tries not to let his wife know he's reading the novel, but soon he cannot resist writing comment

Mythological in its breadth and scope, this is a masterwork from an extraordinary storyteller.. Weaving the intimate with the expansive on a teeming stage, Ferré crafts a revealing self-portrait of a man and a woman, two fiercely independent people searching for meaning and identity. The tale that unfolds in her writing has layers upon layers, exploring the nature

I found it hard to keep track of all the characters through the generations. There was a family tree at the beginning of the book, but it was too small to read on the Kindle. Plus, I couldn't ke.
