He is the BEST historical novelist EVER Yarnartist Bernard Cornwell is a prolific writer, but he could never write too many books for me. He is the BEST historical novelist EVER. I have to admit that I did guess where he was going early in the story, but the way there was a fun ride.. "Historical Romance with Military Overtones" according to John A Lee III. Bernard Cornwell is known for his historical military fiction so it is not surprising to find this book set in the time of the English Civil War. What is surprising is that the military aspects are secondary. It is an adventure story but it is first and foremost a love story.
