It begins by telling us that Angelo Roncalli (later Pope John XXIII) declared at his First Communion that he always wanted to be good to people. In this book, he talks about what he will and will not do today. It focuses on self-improvement, not the improvement of others. There is also talk of taking it one day at a time and resting in God knowing that He loves you. It is a simple book with a simple message, but the message is powerful. Hate the illustrations The text of this book is excellent - very inspiring for all ages. However, I hate the illustrations! I bought this book as a First Communion present for my nephew. I am not going to give it to him because the pictures are so unusual that they are distracting from the text. On several pages, the main character's angular head is sideways and looks like it was drawn first, cut out with scissors and pasted back on sideways. It caught my eye right away and ruined the book for me. I believe that most children (the target audience) will also dislike the illustrations. I am a college-educated lady with a M
