Contextual, Historical Publication This book details the horror of war in the Pacific. As O'Reilly notes, the Japanese had honed their skill at torture and conquest. The loss of life increased in the Pacific as the American "island hopped" in seeking to reach Japan. I think this book is in "context" of the time of the events. If one reads the social conditions in America at the time, the majority of our young males were at war and fewer and fewer.
