The author is uniquely qualified for this type of in-depth account. The book first traces Anandamai Ma's life, and then in a sense doubles back and looks at many events from the viewpoint of people who knew her, while putting these events into the context of the culture. From my perspective the fact that Hallstrom brings in her extensive academic understanding of Anandamai Ma's culture is both a p. frank said Five Stars. the definitive guide. Focuses too Much on Academic Concerns This was a good book for academia, but not so great for a devotee of Anandamayi Ma. It really tears apart her life, and examines everything about her under a Western microscope. If you are a devotee, you might find this somewhat offensive. If you are just doing research on Indian saints, you are in luck. It's a great book for that.
