Amazon Customer said Nice readGreat story. I read the book overnight; couldn't put it down. The author does a masterful job of painting those mental pictures and re-creating the sounds and moods, not to mention the trials, tribulations, and tensions, of growing up in the city in that era, trying to figure it all out and put it all together. The protagonist and I are of the same generation, born the same year, so I can identify with the music, styles, and places (Pine Grove, Damn!!) that Dyllon takes us through. I also enjoyed the 'Dyllonisms' at the beginning of each chapter; the 'philosophical thread' which runs through the chapters themselves.Overall, this is a fine p. "Amazing!" according to Danielle. I loved this book! The character, Dyllon, was fleshed-out and honest. His story captured me; I could not put the book down once I started. I felt as if I was taking a journey with him through his childhood, his teenage years, and then into his adult years, exploring and learning with him. The description of Harlem was realistic and tangible, making me feel as if I had traveled back in time to Dyllon's home town. I truly empathized with this character's plights and was excited as I discovered the underlying theme of the entire story. It made me reflect on my own life and the many sides to my personality. I would definitely recom.
