Nice background reading The idea of an ICT ecosystem is not useful. Lumping together semiconductors, telecom operators, movie studios, ecommerce, etc is not based on reality. It is similar to lumping four countries together into the BRIC countries. The lumping together in a haphazard way is catchy, but not really useful. Still, the book is thoughtful about telecoms and the American Internet agents. Still I would not really recommend it to a broader audience in 2015.
The ICT sector is crucial as a driver of economic and social growth. Not only is it an important industry in its own right, but it also provides the communication and infrastructure without which modern economies could not function. For example, the Internet content and applications layer of the ecosystem tends to work better in the US than in Europe or Asia.
