Jargon everywhere but little interest H.L.C. A lot of jargon related to interpersonal conversations, but I was hoping for more on identity development. Altercasting (how what people say changes self-perception) could have been discussed more, as it was the most interesting thing in the book when I read it one afternoon. I recommend getting a used version with underlining if you get a copy. It keeps you from getting bogged down in the jargon.. DO NOT get the kindle version The one star is not for the actual text itself, but for the fact that the kindle version is not formatted like an actual hard copy book. The result is a useless index and location system that makes this etextbook hardly usable. Had I know this prior to purchasing I would not have gotten the kindle version.The textbook itself is well written and does a good job explaining its key concepts with good examples. I ju. At best some armchair sociology/psychology of human communication I see this book as some made-up guide for deconstructing human communication without any philosophical or scientific explanation. The author basically just made up a bunch of jargon to explain the kinds of communication phenomena we encounter. There are many new names for different kinds of speech phenomena, none of them are information that dive into the actual human mind or any sort of insight into the reasoni
