I like the poetic style that echoes the gentle rocking of a boat. Words are repeated like "slap, slap, slap" and "chug, chug, chug", and children respond to these sounds. The watercolor illustrations of marine life, such as the harbor seal, are outstanding. The activities are a real bonus addition to a book which is already full of interesting information. What comes across is a genuine understanding and love of boats and life on the tide flats.. Something for everyone A Customer Lying Awake is a wonderful story to share with a child.
