But don't hurry past his words; Skerry is a fine writer who transports you to his underwater worlds and introduces you to the sentient and intelligent beings that survive sometimes harsh environments and the scarring effects of human activities. I bought this book for my mother-in-law, having been intrigued by a review. Then I spotted it in my library, so had the opportunity to read and view it myself. It is a treasure that I want for my personal library.. Underwater Images With Emotion I don't often buy pretty underwater coffee table books - because I read them once and put them on the shelf. This one refuses to go to the shelf. The text is enjoyable reading and I now feel like I know Brian Skerry but the images evoke such emotion - from compassion, to wonder, to concern that I find myself picking up the book often and sneaking 15 minutes to visit Brian's photographs over and over. As an underwater photographer I appreciate his technical mastery, but most of all, I know he named the book correctly - Ocean Soul.
