Not Your Typical Paris Book! Karen with a Kindle As my first trip to Paris was also an impulsive bucket-list solo adventure, not knowing anyone there, I was naturally drawn to this story of someone else who does that. But there's more to the story than just the City of Light – in fact, while a good portion of the book takes place in Paris, it is not just about that city. It is a story of relationships and finding yourself – of friendship, marriage, strangers, and learning who you are, in the face of so many other people that think they know you or know who you should be. While the main character annoyed me at times . Delicieux! How many women would up and leave there Arizona home and husband without notice, to run off to Paris on a lark? Impulsive and befuddled Amy would. I had blast following her not so text-book adventures in the city of lights, even a bizarre visit to the catacombs. I wanted to see them when I was in Paris, but sadly never made it down into the creepy crypts.Easy to read and unpredictable, I finished The Paris Effect in two nights, staying up way too late. This book made me miss Paris terribly. Who knows, maybe I’ll make reservations soon!. An irresistible book from start to finish. In this lovely novel, Ms. Burns' language is delicious (like the food she describes) and beautiful (like the settings). I rooted for the grieving Amy from the first pages, and kept rooting while she worked to fill the empty spaces left in the wake of her devastating loss. The Paris Effect is a surprising, tender, thoughtfully-rendered story by an author who has hooked me. Well done!

And don't get me wrong—Paris is truly as romantic as it's cracked up to be! But it's also a multilingual, multinational metropolis of street hustlers, diesel fumes, puddles of pee, and pickpockets. Literary types would probably say it's a coming of age story because the main character, Amy (who loves all things French, and is diet-obsessed and believes French women don't get fat), takes the first big risk of her life by running away to France, soon learning the truth of the expression, "Wherever you go, there you are." I call it a tale of self-discovery that for the reader doubles as a virtual mini-vacation to Paris, giving a unique glimpse of Paris life. Many books have been written with Paris as the setting. I've done a lot of pondering about what makes a satisfying reading experience. What sets you
