Roy has created a world of heightened senses and myriad species, a world that seems tangibly real." —India Today“Roy has created an immersive world of scents and sounds—we feel the corrugated steel roofs under paws, learn the best places to stay dry in a monsoon. The Wildings is a novel that can seduce even those most indifferent to cats.” —Toronto Star “Part Watership Down and part Slumdog Millionaire—and entirely mesmerizing.” —Reader’s Digest “A beautiful re-visioning of Delhi, of friendship and of war. The novel is fable-esque until the deadly battle begins. The narrative, like the domain it is set in, is strikingly unique. “Nilanjana Roy’s novel is a delight to read. It achieves so much in its ground-level, cat-centric witnessing of the urban landscape, and in the complex responses it provides to questions of f

Diana said My all time favorite cat book.. I must have read all the books printed with cats as protagonists and this is my all time favorite. Will read again soon. because I raced through this copy to follow the action. There is a lot more to think about. The authors detailed descriptions are amazing and the examination of philosophical and relationship questions very thought provoking. But then, I've always thought that cats have capabilities that we aren't aware of yet and that they talk about us when we're not present.I enjoyed how the author captured the personalities of all the animals.I hope she has plans for more books in t. "Fabulous feline Fantasy!" according to E. Reed. This was was a book that attracted me from the very start.Full disclosure : I read an ARC kindly given by Pushkin Press, a publisher that specialises in stories from overseas for children and Young Adults. The cover is arresting and the premise intriguing.Set in a cityscape in India it was bound to beguile me! Here we behold Fakirs, birds of prey, Tigers,Monkeys and of course the heroes of the piece ,the cats! The idea of all creatures being connected, but most particularly cats is so attractive. This is really the story of two kittens trying to create a place for themselves within the hiera. A Harsh Beautiful Tale of Justice and Connection Though I just "happened upon" this book, I flew through it in just a few days, utterly engrossed by it. I love animal tales such as this, and still have my first edition copy of Tad Williams "Tailchaser's Song from 1985. Ms. Roy's book has a great deal of its own to commend it. One thing I realized almost at once that was fascinating me was the complexity and detail she brings to this urban ecosystem far from me, with its own exotic species of animals and plants. While of course this is a story and not a science based book, she does have her characters behaving as they might in their real
