DESCRIPTION:
"'Wow' is a good term to describe Thorn, debut YA fantasy novel by author Intisar Khanani. I mean, it was enjoyable, but I had other fairytales I enjoyed a lot more back then. This book certainly left me in awe Thorn tells the story of the Goose Girl, a well-known fairytale I read a couple of times when I was a kid but never enjoyed that much. However, this adapted version of Goose Girl is a spectacular novel that pulled me in from the first page and refused to let me go till I turned the last page." - I Heart Reading 6/27/2012
Thorn has received a Badge of Approval from Awesome Indies. What people are saying: "A troubled princess, an unknown prince, a betrothal, a magnificent white horse, a dangerous sorceress, a wanted thief, magic, mystery, and danger. Forced to marry a powerful foreign prince, Alyrra embarks on a journey to meet her betrothed with little hope for a better future. For Princess Alyrra, choice is a luxury she's never had until she's betrayed. Princess Alyrra has never enjoyed the security or power of her rank. Betrayed during a magical attack, her identity is switched with another woman's, giving Alyrra the first choice she's ever had: to start a new life for herself or fight for a prince she's never met. But powerful men have powerful enemies--and now, so does Alyrra. What more could you want? How about an interesting, in-depth plot that deals with issues such as abuse, grief, justice, loss, pain, revenge, and betrayal? This book has all of these and more." - Vendethiel, review 7/1/2012 "Princess Alyrra/Thorn is the most engaging main character I have met in a long time. She is humble and compassionate and brave, though she doesn't believe it." - Author Elisabeth Wheatley"The climax is a bit of a show-stopper, a wonderful outbreak of magical m

I have read several different versions of "The Goose Girl" which is the tale this novel is based on. The author has taken this simple tale and turned it into a complex, moving novel. I am awed with how a writer can take something and make it so much better.Alyrra is raised in a seriously dysfunctional household. Her brother physically abuses her, often leavi. "Reminds me of the glory days of 80s fantasy when I was a kid" according to Matthew Posner. I don't know the original "The Goose Girl" story and so read this with no preconceptions. It was quite a pleasure. From pretty much the earliest pages, I had a feeling of being in confident authorial hands. It brought me back to being a teenager in the fantasy heyday of the 80s and opening a new series that I knew would engross me for a long time. It's hard to describe that feeling exactly, except to say that f. "Magical in all the right ways" according to Amazon Customer. It's rare that when I complete a novel, I turn back to the beginning to read it again. This is the case, though, with Thorn, a remarkable young-adult novel that goes far beyond fairy tales and fantasy to address themes of justice and mercy. The author doesn't flinch from depicting the brutality of justice served, nor does she spare readers the reality of heartbreaking injustice. She challenges us to consider th
