Math Specialist Loves It! This is a great way to tie literature and math together, and is perfect as the basis of a powerful problem-solving based lesson. My 1st graders listened to the story in parts, then went to their seats and modeled the section with blocks. They recorded their work using multiple digit addition. Other grades could easily use this as a division springboard. NCTM has more ideas for this book, too.. love it my grandson's favorite book; a nice way to introduce division to a second grader. I found it to be a cute way to sneak math into a fun story. I loved the way the author ended the story.
